Book published: Ernest Gimson life and work
James has shot the cover, frontispiece and principal photography for a new book about the English Arts and Crafts architect Ernest Gimson.
The book is published by Yale University Press, and has just been released worldwide following its release in London in November.
New commission: The Painted Hall, London
Jas has been commissioned by Hugh Broughton Architects to photograph the refurbishment and restoration of the Painted Hall at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, London, UK. The Painted Hall was originally designed by Sir Christopher Wren and Nicholas Hawksmoor in 1696 and is decorated with a spectacular ceiling by James Thornhill. It’s considered one of the most important baroque painted interiors in Europe.
James’s photographs have been widely published, including in this month’s issue of the US Architectural Record magazine.
New publication: Azure magazine
James’s photograph of 62M, the experimental housing complex in Winnipeg, Canada, have been published in the Jan/Feb issue of Canada’s Azure magazine. The building is designed by the celebrated 5468796 Architecture.

New commission: Canadian Parliament
James has been commissioned to photograph the new Visitor Welcome Centre at Canada’s federal parliament buildings. This beautiful new series of spaces is designed by Moriyama and Teshima in collaboration with IBI Group. They form Parliament Hill’s new front door and welcome, in an ongoing remodelling of the legislative complex.
The photographs of the project have just been published in Canadian Architect magazine.
Book published: Kensington Palace
James has shot the cover and principal photography for a new book about the art and architecture of London’s Kensington Palace. The book is the result of a lengthy ongoing commission to record a number of Britain’s royal palaces on behalf of Historic Royal Palaces, the trust who looks after them. It is published by Yale University Press.
